Turron
Recipe for Turron
Turron is really just Spanish nougat, made with honey and almonds. It is easten throughout Spain during the Christmas season - many different varieties of Turron exist. This recipe is for the traditional plain turron and is super quick and easy.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 kilos ground almonds
- 500g sugar
- 1 kilo of honey
- 1 lemon
- 2 egg whites
Method:
- Heat the honey in a pan over a low heat, then add the sugar and stir.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg white until stiff then add to the honey and sugar mixture in the pan. Remove the pan from the heat and stir for around 8 to 12 minutes.
- Place back on a low heat and continue stirring until the mixture begins to caramelize (it will turn brown).
- Add the ground almonds and the zest of the lemon and mix everything together.
- Put the mixture aside to cool for a few mins then place into a metal tin lined with grease proof paper.
- Leave to cool for 2 hours
When the nougat has cooled down it is ready to eat!
