With cheap flights being the dominant way to travel to Spain, there are a small number of opportunities to travel by boat.
For those in the UK with a desire to try something new or if you are adverse to flying, there is a regular ferry service that links Santurtzi, near Bilbao, to Portsmouth (UK). The Pride of Bilbao ferry departs from the port of Bilbao, 15 km west of the city centre and arrives approximately 28 hours later.
It is much more likely that while in Spain, a ferry journey be used to travel to one of the Spanish islands or to Morocco or Africa where the major ports offer reliable and inexpensive services.
