Travelling by train in Spain is easy ... as long as you are in an area with a train station. Many areas still do not have access to trains, especially in the south of Spain and including many towns, in which case a bus service is always present.

Where services are available the trains are modern and punctual, the services are some of the best in Europe.

One other thing to remember is that the train system is a radial network ... basically meaning all lines lead to the capital, Madrid. Often this can mean a journey can require a substantial detour towards Madrid, even when the journey would be quite short 'as the crow flies'.
